The city of Newark, California, is located in Alameda County and was incorporated in 1955. The region is surrounded by Fremont, California, and is one of the largest cities in the US. Newark was once home to the Native American people of Ohlone before the Europeans settled in the area. The name of the city derives from Newark Castle in Port Glasgow, Scotland, and it was named by one of the cities developers, J. Barr Robertson. The city is now a high-tech location focusing on health sciences and biotechnology while also continuing to grow its commercial and retail business and residential community.

Along with its growing community of technology, Newark has abundant parks and recreation activities for all ages. With over 15 parks and sports fields in the area, residents have plenty of options to enjoy the outdoors while also staying healthy. The George M. Silliman Community Activity Center, for example, has various activities to choose from, including an aquatic center, dance studio, game zone, and much more. Then there’s the Clark W. Redeker Newark Senior Center, a close-knit community of its own that celebrates the joys of life at all ages.
